The Rosen Project!

Today Blondie, Rusty and I finalized our summer agreement for the curriculum aka "Rosen Project." I am happy to know what is expectedc of me and when its expected. We agreed the DVD project needs to be put on hold till more grant money is achieved. Whew, I didn't want to do a poor job due to a low budget or limited amount of time to complete it. Afterall our names will be on this and knowing the deaf community are like burracudas, ready to rip apart any newly printed ASL materials. I am not looking forward to the inevitable criticism that's likely to accompany our final copy of the Rosen Project. But thats not for a while and hopefully we will do an excellent job of researching how to best present the materials in a way that ensures effective acqusition of ASL.

Tmw nite I fly out from LaGuardia airport to Portland, Maine. I cannot wait to see Ronnie! Its been way too lunch and almost feels surreal. This morning in her email she wrote "It feels like a set-up almost...I'm going to really see you?" I couldn't agree more. We have tried in the past year like 4 or 5 times to make a visit happen, be it here or up there. Each time it fell through, usually do to money or conflict of schedule. I know I'm gonna have a blast. I have never not had a great visit up there. I hope to see her Dad. Her Dad is like Paul Buyannan, looks gruffy but has a BIG heart!

The other day as I was taking out the trash, someone in my building must've just moved out and left several boxes of clothes and household items by the mailbox area. I was able to snag a Bass Co. backpack, free and in excellent condition. As well as a pair of nice pants for teaching in the fall during colder weather. There's nothing like freebies! Ironically the road to hell is paved with good intentions. You see, I was telling Jack one day how I wanted a toaster or toaster oven. He mentioned having a few extra ones and would bring me one shortly. But then I got a free working toaster when I went to a moving sale, the woman had items she planned to donate and one of them was a toaster in excellent shape. I took it home and showed Jack but somehow a week or two later he brought over a toaster oven. Which was very sweet of him but I have no room for it as its a MONSTER size, as big as some microwaves are! And if you seen my kitchen, you know there's no room. Now its sitting in a box in my living room, blocking my closet. I will ask Jack to remove it this weekend while I am in Maine. Or else I am giving it away to the first taker. I am a strong believer in recycling and re-using items. I don't mind wear and tear. Afterall we too age, why should inanimated objects be any different?
